I loved to have slumber parties when I was growing up. Many of my favorite memories come from being with the girls. We would do our hair, makeup, play games, listen to our favorite music, eat tons of junk food and share our secrets with each other. Out of all the secrets I would share, it was always the ones I felt comfortable telling. The ones I wanted them to know. The ones they wouldn’t judge me for or reject me because of.
We all hide things about ourselves that we don’t want others to know. It is usually out of fear of rejection or because we are ashamed. Many women have secrets about themselves that have never been shared with anyone.
Secrets like these can rule your life. Satan keeps us bound by our silence and we believe his lies that keep us from the freedom and healing God desires for us.
In John 10:10 it states that he (the enemy) only comes to steal, kill and destroy. But that Jesus came so we could have life and have it to the fullest.
My secret kept me in silence for over 15yrs. Every year it got harder and heavier to carry it on my own. I buried my feelings and pain deep inside over those years.
It is very possible you know someone who has kept this very kind of secret. Statistics show that 1 out of 3 women have. - That is 43% of American women all with the same type of secret.
MY Secret – I had an abortion almost 18 years ago. I was 16 at the time I found out I was pregnant. I was scared, confused, desperate and emotionally unstable. On April 19, 1991 I made a choice to walk into a clinic in Houston to have an abortion. There are many details about that day that are blocked from my memory. One thing that is forever etched into my mind is I didn’t have the courage to walk away when I knew I was making the biggest mistake of my life. After that day, it was never talked about again.
Just as abortion many secrets we harbor keep us from the life God has for us. The enemy uses our secrets against us. He can make you believe that you are not worthy of God’s love, and forgiveness, that you are weak or that people will never accept you.
Just as post abortive women, there are 100’s of women each week that walk in and out of church who are dying on the inside. Their secrets have been locked inside of them for years. Because of this you could live a life defeated by depression, fear, anxiety, shame or guilt or addiction. It doesn’t matter what the situation or circumstances, we all need freedom. What is it that has you bound in silence?
Are you willing to trade it for the freedom Christ has promised you? Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. His words in John 8, states that, “if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” As a believer we are called to be free.
Galatians 5:1 speaks volumes of truth, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”
Will you trust Him? Confess to Him what has you bound up and let Him lead you to the peace that He promised you in Philippians 4:7.
